GLIYC Swap Meet

November 5, 2005

Grand Rapids Yacht Club

Gull Lake Ice Yacht Club held its 31st annual Swap Meet at Grand Rapids Yacht Club.  Sailors came from all over to sell off extra or old runners, spars, sails, and various hardware.  There were also many Ice Boats for sail ranging from a $900 older DN to a newer DN that was $4000.  There was a Renegade for $2000 and a couple E-skeeters for slightly less.  Ahhh.... if I had only brought my checkbook....

Ron Sherry was there with some of his famous "whip" masts for sail as well as some runners, stays and other goods.  He was giving away free tune-up guides that will hopefully make most of us go faster this year.  Sarns Hardware was also present with packages of DN hardware as well as Runners ready to sell.

Toledo Ice Yacht Club was well represented despite the long drive.  Present was:  Chris Teal, Clark Teal, Dave Disbennet, Don Williams, Rob Holman, Glen Betzoldt, Bob Foeller, Aaron Stange, Kent Baker, and George Reis.

Many door Prizes were raffled off after lunch.  Amongst the top prizes were:  a $200 gift certificate for Sarns Hardware, a Ron Sherry Tiller, and the grand prize - an F-01 sail from Doyle Sails - Won by our very own Clark Teal!  Dont bother asking him if he is going to sell.  It seems that his son Chris already thinks he has rights to it!

The mood was definitely upbeat and it was clear that there are a lot of sailors ready for the season!

Thanks to Nat Kolling for the photos!
