As many of you know, we have an iceboating
season that is often far too short! So it should come as no surprise that
many of our sailors put the slow boats in and get a tan during the summer.
It is really great to see some of the boats out there with almost all or
100% TIYC crew members.
Here is a list of some of the boats we see in the summer:
One-Design Dinghys:
Interlake: Kent Baker, Keith Wells, Jim Davis, Tim Marriot,
Carl Bradley, Skip Dieball, Ernie Dieball, Aaron Stange, Denny Dieball
Lightning: Jim Davis, Denny Dieball Finn: Skip Dieball
Laser: Mike Stark, Les Lashaway, Ryan Lashaway 420:
Mike Stark, Ben Goldberg, Brian Goldberg J-22: Ernie
Dieball, Rob Fox, Jamie Matuszak
PHRF Racers:
Orange Crate - owned (and built) by Jim Davis does a
great job tearing up the JAM racing scene in the area. Also does
occasional kite-races when he gets the right crew on the right races.
Mega - owner, TIYC secretary Les Lashaway. This boat
is another JAM boat that does very well. Typically sails with a small
crew that includes his family or an occasional Fredrick brother.
Wuzant Me! - Jamie Matuzak's J-22 races PHRF and also
travels to a handful of one-design events throughout the year.
Hawk - owned by Don Williams. This boat just made is
debut last summer and we are looking forward to seeing more of 'em.
Abracadabra - Perhaps one of the most feared PHRF racers in
the area. This one is skippered by Past Commodore Roger Stark, along
with his son, Mike and a great crew that usually includes TIYC members such
as Jeff Phillips or P/C Norm Gladieux.

Saving Grace-
Past Commodore Norm Gladiuex and children can be found on this speedy little Olson 25.
Billikin - Rob and Nancy Fox like to push the envelope on this
little racer with crew that may include TIYC members Jim Moore, Ernie
Dieball and Kent Baker and Erica Stange.

Odyssey- Past Commodore Chris Frederick and his
family sail this S-2 9.1 out of Sandusky Sailing Club. Brother (and
fellow 15 meter sailor) Dean is on the crew whenever he can get time off
from his business.
Wizard- Jeff and Marilyn MacKay have earned the respect
locally as one of the most consistent competitors in PHRF. They have
also won the Evelyn 32 One-Design Nationals.
Red Cloud - Past Commodore John Greiner's and his wife Judy
enjoy racing their Santana 35, with a little help from crew that includes
TIYC member Jim Strbny. This boat loves the heavy air.
Purple Hobie - Commodore Rich Potcova and Rear-Commodore
Aaron Stange head up this team that includes new member, Brent Marriot.
Carrying over their need for speed from the ice to the water this is one of
those Hobie 33's. Easily idnetified by its Purple Color, not so much
by its name as it has been called everything from "Purple Hobie", to "Trunk
Monkey" www.plumracing.com
Menace - Members Robert Foeller and Mike Deye partner up
with a crew that often includes members Mike Robie, Kent Baker, Carl
Bradley, Nat Kolling, and Andy Bergstedt. This boat, another Hobie 33
has fun and once in a while does very well.

Kaleidoscope - Harold Hoffman's Abbott 33. These
boats do PHRF as well as occasionally one-design events in Western Lake
Erie.
Kate - This boat owned by Tim and Kate Peterson does
not typically race, however Tim deserves a mention because he let the Junior
sailors race in a handful of Wednesday night races this past summer, while
he stayed at the bar and ordered a double to calm his nerves...
